 Two pages from How To See.  Ruskin demonstrates common themes in natural forms to a terrified Darren and a frankly disbelieving Skittle.

Note the reference in the waves to Wally Wood's comics version of Longfellow's Wreck of the Hesperus from early MAD comics.  Ruskin and Longfellow met in Paris in 1868, and apparently got on well.  I like to think of them sinking a few together and hitting the boulevards.
